During his illness, Laimis received care from dozens of health care professionals, including the nurses who were with him during his final moments. However two oncologists played a large role in his treatment: Dr. Elliott Anderson of Hawthorn Medical Associates and Dr. Benjamin Schlechter of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Through the Jimmy Fund, millions of dollars have been raised for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to support both research into defeating cancer and care for patients and their families.
